I've been a fan of Metal since I was 11 years old. It has even saved my life on a certain occasion. I also play bass guitar (fretless is currently in the works). I play with my fingers but I'll occasionally use a pick (for extremely fast riffs only). I'm mostly self taught but I have taken a music theory class (got a 95% in that class). If I've learned one thing, that one thing is that you can't learn every music note in this entire universe by ear. I'm also a vocalist. I'm able to do a high pitched Jeff Becerra (Possessed) like scream, a Martin VanDrunen (Pestilence) like growl, a high pitched falsetto scream, a Steve Reynolds (Demolition Hammer)style vocal, a Rob Urbinati (Sacrifice) style vocal, a Pat Lind (Morbid Saint) style vocal, a Mille Petrozza (Kreator) style vocal, or a Russ Anderson (Forbidden) style octave. These vocal styles are not easy at all. They take a lot of practice, dedication, and perseverance to obtain (if you want them to sound good that is). In all, I'm working on developing my own vocal style. That's why I've decided to take up learning and doing quite a broad range of vocal styles. It will pay off in the end for sure. I've been doing vocals since my freshman year of high school. Not that this would be a shock to anyone but I just have to say that I'm gay. Where I come from, I'm well respected by the older generation metallers. None of them seem to care about the fact that I'm gay. Which, that's a good thing on my part. I'm far from your typical pretty boy/limp wristed type of gay. I'm not afraid of my sexual orientation and I'm not afraid to admit I love men. Hell, I said it to an entire audience on my old band's last show at my old high school's "Battle of the Bands" and we came in 1st place. The response was actually very positive and that shows something. I'm not a cry baby. I accept the cards I'm given in life and I use them well. That's life for ya and you better get used to it. Also, words like "fag" and "queer" don't offend me at all. To me, they're just words. Besides, "fag" in British means "small cigarette". Remember, Rob Halford of Judas Priest is gay. Well, I'm glad I got that shit out of the way. I'm kind of closeted about this but I'm also a lover of anime shows such as Fullmetal Alchemist and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Now, I don't like all anime and I'm not a nerd or some over obsessive fan. I know my new name is Duo but I did that for personal and legal reasons (who the hell wants to have the same name as their sex offender / child molesting father? I know I don't!). Plain old names like Steve sounded boring as fuck! I wanted something different so I went with Duo (which is also the name of a Mobile Suit Gundam Wing character and the nick name of my best friend's little brother that died from Leukemia). I'm also into collecting Japanese monster figures. Whether it is a Godzilla figure or a Pokémon figure, I'm pretty open minded on it. I have Japanese relatives, so that's kind of how I got drawn to that stuff. I also am a long time lover of old school hardcore punk such as The Exploited and Dead Kennedys. Without hardcore punk there would be no crossover thrash! Just ask D.R.I. and Ratos de Porão!
